Raven Wing Fort Augustus Abbey
It was originally planned to demolish the Raven Wing and be replaced with a totally new building. At some point however the plans changed, possibly because of the historic nature and geology beneath the surface meant that new foundations would not be possible, hence the decision to renovate the present building which lies between the Moat House and the Old School.
Most of the Raven Wing apartments are now available for self catering holiday rentals and the contemporary look of the finished building provides a pleasing contrast with the original Abbey. The contemporary feel created by mixing the new and the ancient works very well.
The apartments within mostly have a pleasant outlook look out across the cricket pitch to the village of Fort Augustus, and on the other side the views are across the lawns and tennis court, to the Caledonian Canal. Owners and self catering guests will be able to see the larger boats going up and down the canal.
This building was due to be completed at the same time as the Old School and Moat House, both of which were completed in December 2006. Somewhere along the line work on the Raven wing ceased and it became Phase 1A of the development. The picture above shows the new rather lovely entrance of stained glass into the building.
