What is the Highland Club?
The Highland Club as it is now called is a sensitively restored former abbey and historic building originally designed as a military fort. Built at the time of the Jacobites it has been restored and converted into luxury self catering and residential apartments and cottages with on site facilities for holiday makers and residents.

When will the development be complete?
Parts that are advertised are complete now and ongoing work should not inconvenience visitors. The project should be totally complete sometime in late 2010 the swimming pool will be the last to be completed.

Is the Highland Club a hotel?
No, the Highland Club is made up of a little over 100 apartments and cottages, all owned by individuals. Many apartments are let for self catering holiday rentals, and a few are residential.

What is self catering?
Self catering also known as holiday rentals or vacation rentals is an increasingly popular way to book holiday accommodation. It simply means you hire a cottage or apartment for a set period for a set number of persons, the accommodation inclues kitchen equipment for your use to prepare your own meals rather than ordering from a menu as you would in a hotel. Of course you need not cook at all you can go out to eat. Self catering holidays give your party the freedom to come and go as you please.

Can we bring dog?
Dogs are not allowed in any of the abbey buildings but are allowed in the Courtyard Cottages where owners allow.

Can anyone use the pool and spa & other facilities?
The Highland Club facilities are private and may be used by owners and self catering visitors to the Highland Club, possession of an apartment key will verify this if necessary.

What is the best way to travel to abbey?
See our travel page, but it is almost essential that you have a car if you want to do any sightseeing. So either arrive in your own car or rent from Inverness airport for those flying in to Inverness, or rent from the railway station or town if arriving at Inverness by other means.

How do I book accommodation?
When choosing accommodation please note - all apartments and cottages are privately owned and each owner has their own system of accepting bookings. First find the apartment or apartments you like, then book according to how that apartment owner has chosen to allow. Some may be booked online using Highland Club Scotland secure booking facility. Some require you to phone or email the owner, and some direct you to the owners website or booking agent.

How do I book online using the Highland Club booking facility?
When you are on a property page that accepts online booking you -

  1. click on the "View Availability" link which is shown just above the pictures on the right of the page, the link is also near the bottom of the page.
  2. Select a date from the calendars
  3. select number of nights you are presented with the price.
